Junior Leadership Hudson

Junior Leadership Hudson was created in 2009 by the Adult Leadership Hudson group as one of their yearly projects. Other projects created by Adult Leadership Hudson include the Hudson Farmer’s Market, Taste of Hudson, and Hudson Safety Town. The goal of Junior Leadership Hudson is to blend a group of young leaders from the Hudson area and have them work collaboratively toward the betterment of the community while meeting and networking with key figures around the state of Ohio. Each year, the Junior Leadership Hudson advisors select eight students from Western Reserve Academy and eight students from Hudson High School to participate in Junior Leadership Hudson. The experience is a great one for the students and one in which they learn invaluable skills. It is our experience that the skills these students acquire during the year-long program benefit not only the community of Hudson but also the students’ respective schools. Throughout the course of the year, each student provides 16 hours of community service to the local community, participates in six off-campus learning days, and makes two presentations summarizing their experiences.

This year we will make two trips to Cleveland, one to Kent, one trip to Akron, one to Columbus, and we will have two sessions in Hudson. Our trips will include visits with people who are leaders in government, law, research, medicine, business, entrepreneurship, higher education, etc. Some examples include visits with Ohio State Legislators in Columbus, judges and entrepreneurs in Akron, business leaders in Hudson, and officials/managers with Key Bank, Sherwin Williams, Cleveland Indians, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Museum of Art and researchers at the Cleveland Clinic. Each visit is geared around learning what the person does to lead their organization or be a leader in their respective field. We also do team building exercises with students, as provided by the advisors.
